York County Proposes Safer Crossing for Tabb High Students—Public Hearing Set for Aug 28

Good news for families near Tabb High School: York County and VDOT are working together on a much-needed crosswalk and sidewalk project along busy Yorktown Road.

The proposed upgrade would add a 6-foot-wide, high-visibility crosswalk and an ADA-compliant sidewalk segment directly in front of Tabb High School, where over 1,130 students attend daily. Many students live within walking distance, but safety concerns have kept most from crossing the road on foot.

What’s in the Plan?

Location: Yorktown Rd. (Route 706), right in front of Tabb High
Design: Striped crosswalk, new sidewalk, ADA curb ramps, clear signage
Potential Add-Ons: Flashing beacons, pending final design review

The plan follows Virginia’s Complete Streets guidelines and aims to reduce car congestion while increasing safety for both pedestrians and drivers.
