Help Design Williamsburg VA’s New Skatepark at Warhill Sports Complex

by Jackie Berberabe

Exciting changes are rolling in for Williamsburg VA’s skate community! James City County is relocating its skatepark to the Warhill Sports Complex—and this time, skaters, families, and neighbors all get a say in the design.

The next Skatepark Community Design Workshop will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, from 6–8 p.m. at the James City County Recreation Center, located at 5301 Longhill Road.

Why the Skatepark Is Moving

Relocating the skatepark to Warhill opens up more space and more opportunity. Warhill is one of the busiest recreational hubs in the region, and this move allows for a larger, better-integrated, and more innovative design—turning it into a true destination for skateboarding, BMX, and community gathering.

Your Input Matters

This isn’t a top-down project. James City County has teamed up with Spohn Ranch Skateparks, a nationally recognized leader in skatepark design, to ensure the final product reflects what the community actually wants.

Whether you:
• Skate yourself
• Have kids who ride
• Live nearby
• Or simply value fun, safe public spaces...

You’re invited to join the conversation.

Here’s what the design workshops will cover:
• Project updates on the move to Warhill
• Public input on features, layout, and materials
• Q&A with the design team
• Open floor for feedback from all ages and skill levels

What This Means for Williamsburg

This project is bigger than ramps and rails—it’s about building community. Skateparks attract people of all ages and create a space for creativity, movement, and connection. A well-designed park becomes a place where families hang out, teens burn energy, and neighbors cheer each other on.

For anyone exploring Yorktown real estate, moving to Williamsburg VA, or relocating for military assignments at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, or Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown—this is the kind of local investment that shows why this area stands out.

Final Thoughts

Skate culture is alive and well in Williamsburg VA, and this new park is proof that the community is listening.

If you want to shape the next chapter of skateboarding in our area, join the workshop on Oct. 9 or complete the survey by Sept. 19. Your input can help build something that serves skaters today—and the next generation.
