One Last Moonlight Adventure at Freedom Park

If you’ve been meaning to try one of Freedom Park’s Full Moon Hikes, this is it — the final one of the year is coming up on November 5, and it’s the perfect excuse to bundle up, slow down, and soak in a little Williamsburg magic after dark.
November’s hike celebrates the Beaver Moon, the last full moon of fall before winter starts creeping in. From 5 to 6 p.m., hikers can explore Multiuse Trail 3 — the only trail that stays open after sunset for this special event. It’s a one-mile, paved, ADA-accessible trail that winds through the forest and the peaceful Colby Swamp. The setting feels straight out of a movie — the kind where you can hear the crickets, smell the pine trees, and see the moon reflecting off the water.
No registration is required, and it’s completely free. The rules are simple: stick to Multiuse Trail 3, enjoy the quiet, and head out by closing time. It’s self-guided, family-friendly, and weather permitting, so just bring a flashlight or headlamp in case the clouds roll in.
Freedom Park, tucked away in James City County, is already a local favorite for mountain biking, hiking, and picnicking — but seeing it after sunset? That’s something special. The park closes at dusk most days, so this is one of the rare chances to experience its wooded trails under moonlight.
Events like this are what make Williamsburg, VA such a gem of a community. It’s the perfect mix of small-town charm, family-friendly fun, and outdoor adventure. And honestly, it’s one of those little “only here” moments that remind you why this area is such a great place to live — especially if you love being surrounded by nature and history.
So grab your favorite walking buddy, lace up your sneakers, and join the last Full Moon Hike of twenty twenty-five. You’ll get a little exercise, a lot of fresh air, and maybe even a photo worth framing.
And if you’re thinking about putting down roots in Williamsburg, Yorktown, or Newport News — or you’re part of our amazing military community looking for your next home — I’d love to help. Williamsburg isn’t just where I work; it’s where I live, play, and explore, just like you.
